Know what you own.
Care through the seasons, what to check, where to find the label and which documents came with it. Eight product families, one atlas.
01 — The index
Choose your product.
Each family opens a dossier: a care calendar for the year, the checks worth doing, where the label usually sits, common questions and the documents that came with your order.
8 of 8 families
No family uses that material.

A walk-round you can do yourself, from the ground and without tools. Nothing is saved: tick as you go.
Where to look
Positions vary by model and manufacturer. If you cannot find a label, your order confirmation carries the product reference, and that is enough for us to start.

03 — Materials
Care follows the material.
Almost everything we supply comes down to these six. Treat each the way it wants to be treated and it keeps its looks for longer. Always follow the care guide supplied with your product; where it differs from this page, the care guide applies.

Aluminium
Powder-coated or anodised frames, profiles, fins and gates. Naturally corrosion-resistant; the finish is what you look after.
Do
- Wash with clean water and a pH-neutral detergent, using a soft cloth or sponge.
- Rinse well and dry off standing water.
- Wash more often near the coast, roads or industry, where salt and grime settle.
Avoid
- Scouring pads, abrasive creams and solvents.
- Pressure washers held close to seals and joints.
- Cleaning in hot sun, which leaves streaks.

Steel
Garage door panels, buildings, fences and gates. Steel elements on our fences are hot-dip galvanised and powder-coated; the coating is the protection, so keep it whole.
Do
- Wash with mild soapy water and rinse regularly, and at least as often as your care guide says.
- Rinse off road salt after winter, especially near driveways.
- Touch up chips promptly with the paint the manufacturer recommends.
Avoid
- Anything that scratches through the coating: wire brushes, scrapers, abrasive pads.
- Leaning metal tools or bikes against panels.
- Drilling or fixing into panels without asking us first.

Timber
Wood and wood-aluminium windows and doors. Timber moves with the weather; its finish keeps water out.
Do
- Look over the finish once a year, on the sunniest and wettest faces first.
- Re-coat with a compatible product when the surface dulls, cracks or stops shedding water.
- Keep end grain and lower rails clear of standing water and soil.
Avoid
- Mixing finishes without checking they are compatible.
- Sealing over damp timber.
- Pressure washing, which raises the grain.

PVC
Window and door profiles, in white, colour-core or foiled woodgrain finishes. Wipe clean; no repainting.
Do
- Clean with warm water and a little washing-up liquid on a soft cloth.
- Clean the seals at the same time and let them dry.
- Clear the drainage slots along the bottom of the frame.
Avoid
- Solvents, bleach and abrasive creams, which can dull or mark the surface.
- Sharp tools on foiled finishes.
- Painting the frames.

Glass
Insulating glass units in windows, doors, pods and façades. Many carry invisible coatings that do the thermal and solar work.
Do
- Rinse off grit first, then clean with plenty of water and a soft cloth or squeegee.
- Use a mild, non-abrasive glass cleaner.
- Clean tilt and turn windows from inside, with the sash turned open.
Avoid
- Blades, scrapers and wire wool, which scratch glass and coatings.
- Applying films or stickers to insulating glass without asking us: they can cause heat stress.
- Cleaning glass in direct, strong sun.

Electronics
Drives, remotes, keypads, sensors and the app that ties them together in Intelligent systems.
Do
- Keep the app and device software up to date.
- Replace remote and sensor batteries before they run flat.
- Keep photocells and sensor lenses clean and unobstructed.
- Learn how to open each product by hand if the power fails, as your instructions describe.
Avoid
- Opening the covers of mains-powered drives or control units.
- Spraying water directly at drives, sensors or keypads.
- Sharing access codes more widely than you need to.
04 — Safety stops
Some jobs are never yours.
Care is cleaning, looking and listening. If you meet one of these, stop, keep people clear and call us.
- 01
Springs and cables
Garage door springs and cables are under high tension. Never adjust, release or replace them yourself. A frayed cable or a broken spring means: stop using the door.
- 02
Safety features that do not respond
An automatic door or gate that does not stop and reverse when it meets an obstacle, or ignores its photocells, should not be used until it has been checked.
- 03
Mains power
Drives, control units and their wiring are for qualified technicians. Do not open covers or work on the supply.
- 04
Cracked or broken glass
Keep clear, keep children and pets away, and do not try to remove loose glass. Tape and cover only if it is safe to do so from where you stand.
- 05
Working at height
Roofs, gutters on buildings and pods, façades and high windows: look from the ground or from inside. Never climb to clean or inspect.

Read your product label.
One small plate tells us most of what we need to know. A photo of it, sent with your question, saves a lot of back and forth. Tap a field to see what it means.
