Concept. An illustration of how products from our catalogue can work together. Not a completed project: no client, location, date or result is implied.

A family home that works the same for a toddler, a teenager and a grandparent: step-free where it matters, doors that do the work, access shared without handing out keys, and one finish that ties it together.

The idea

Nothing here is a special product. These are the everyday doors, windows, gates and systems from our catalogue, chosen with every age in mind. Our guide to designing for every generation explains the thinking.

Step-free

From kitchen to terrace, a lift-and-slide door with its running rail sunk into the floor build-up and a drainage channel in front leaves no step at all1. The FUTURO aluminium lift-and-slide door has a low threshold that can sit flush with the floor2, and a leaf of up to 400 kg moves with one hand1.

The front door

A front door with an electric lock and a concealed closer shuts itself behind a pram or a walking frame, every time, and locks3. NOVA can take a motorised lock4. Hands full? The door can be unlocked from the car before you reach the step3.

Access for the people who help

Give the gate and the front door to the grandparents until Sunday evening, a code to a child coming home from school, and set hours to a cleaner; take any of it back in a tap3. The app keeps 30 days of activity, so you can see who came and went3.

A sliding gate opens with a tap from the car and closes behind you3, and a wicket from swing gates and wickets keeps the path apart from the drive5.

One finish

The gate, fence, garage door and front door in one Home Inclusive finish read as one entrance6. The HOME INCLUSIVE fence collection offers louvres, deep panels and solid sheets for privacy5.

Things to decide

  1. Who lives here, who visits, and how each of them moves through the house.
  2. Which thresholds should be flush, and where a drain can go.
  3. Which doors should close and lock themselves.
  4. Who needs access, and for which hours.
  5. Thresholds, drives and controls confirmed at survey for your openings7, 3.
