Concept. An illustration of how products from our catalogue can work together. Not a completed project: no client, location, date or result is implied.

Bikes, bins and recycling out of sight and under lock, deliveries left safely at the boundary, and a path that is easy to use every day.

The idea

Three small problems, solved together: where the bikes live, where the bins wait, and what happens to a parcel when nobody is home. A compact steel building takes the first two; the fence takes the third.

The store

A compact steel building does the job. Jönköping and Sarpsborg come in 3 × 5 m, and Törso in 3.5 × 5 m; the shop files them with sheds and recycling storage1. Each has a lockable door, with locks supplied with three keys1.

Steel sheds can collect condensation on cold days, so keep the store ventilated and let wet bikes dry before you shut them in2.

The way in

A wicket in the fence keeps the path to the store separate from the drive. Wickets, gates, segments and posts are one system, so the design and colour carry across3; the MODERN collection and swing gates and wickets are a good place to start.

Deliveries

A MultiBox post takes letters as standard; a parcel slot, a video door phone and LED lighting are options, and the post is coated in the fence colour3.

With Intelligent Systems a courier can be given a few uses of the wicket and the parcel box for the week, and the app tells you when the parcel is in4.

Planning notes

In England, an outbuilding may not sit on land forward of the principal elevation of the house under permitted development5, and that is usually the front6. A bike and bin store in a front garden may therefore need planning permission: ask your council, and see our planning guide.

Things to decide

  1. How many bikes and bins, and how they come in and out.
  2. Front or back garden, and so whether planning applies.
  3. A wicket of its own, or the main gate.
  4. Which MultiBox options you need, and where their power comes from.
