Choosing a garage-door colour and finish
Five surface textures, wood effects and RAL colours, and one finish carried across the house: how to choose a door that looks right in every light.

A garage door is the largest moving surface of a home1, so its colour and texture shape how the whole front reads. Choose it with the house, not the brochure, and choose it in your own light.
Start with the house
Look at what the door will sit beside: brick, render, timber cladding, the window frames, the front door. Take your colour from one of them rather than adding a new one. A door that shares its colour with the windows or the front door tends to recede; one that contrasts becomes a feature.
Our windows can wear one colour outside and another inside, and the same finish can carry to the front door, the garage door and the gate2.
Five textures
The surface matters as much as the colour. Our sectional doors come in five textures1:
- Sandgrain. A fine, even grain that hides fingerprints and softens reflections. The default on the three sectional systems.
- Woodgrain. Timber grain pressed into steel, in Golden Oak, Dark Oak, Nut and Macoré, and in Graphite RAL 7016 for a charred-timber look.
- Silkline. A silky, low-sheen surface that lets low sun show the panel lines, in Graphite RAL 7016 and White RAL 9016.
- Smoothgrain. The calmest surface, with minimal texture for flush contemporary façades, in Anthracite Quartz, Dark Oak and Golden Oak.
- Black Edition. PRIME turns the inside black too, with hinges, rollers and tracks powder-coated RAL 9005.
Colour
Beyond the textures there are standard colours, wood effects and RAL colours. A RAL code names a colour exactly, such as RAL 7016 Anthracite grey or RAL 9005 Jet black, so it can be matched across products3.
Our catalogue lists the finishes for each system: 12 for UniPro, 11 for UniTherm and 5 for PRIME, and 57 for the roller and up-and-over doors1. In the manufacturer’s range, roller doors also take more than 200 RAL colours by powder coating4.
One finish across the house
Home Inclusive brings doors, windows, garage doors and fencing into one coordinated exterior, with 16 signature finishes in four families: HI EARTH, HI STONE, HI STEEL and HI RUBY5. They run from soft greens and warm stones to blues and graphites, corals and deep browns5.
Finishes depend on the product and its specification, so check the colour options on each product before you commit5.
Light changes everything
The same door reads differently two hours apart. Dark finishes drink the evening, oak glows, and white holds the last of the day1. Look at the door’s wall at the times you see it most: leaving in the morning, and arriving after dark.
See a real sample
Screen colours are a starting point: light and screen settings change how a colour looks5. We bring physical panel samples to the survey, so you choose on your own house, in your own light1.
Whatever you choose, keep the coating whole. Wash steel with mild soapy water, rinse off road salt after winter, and touch up chips promptly with the paint the manufacturer recommends6.
